forgot to say also the mpg i can usually make it average at 52mpg but its dropped down to 44 mpg no matter how steady an fuel concerving i drive it cant get it back up ,, could this be maf sencor running the engine in cold mode ?

Hi mate,

What engine/ model do you have?

And as you have quite rightly said, you need to get the codes read really. Where a bout in the country are you? Somone may be able to help you out and pop along with a code reader.

hi mate cheers for responce its 1.9 jtd mk2 v reg and im in south yorkshire in rotherham , cheers

Hi mate,

To check if its the MAF, Unplug the MAF and take it for a drive. If it IS the MAF the EML should go out and the car should drive better than it was.

Could be MAP sensor, no real way to test this without having it on diagnostics or swapping it for another one.

Could be boost solonoid, again cant really check this without examiner, other than taking it apart and cleaning it.

TBH its difficalt to diagnose without more symptoms and/or codes. There are lots of things it could be.

hi mate , iv just taken the air filter out just to try lettin more cool air in , well so it flows more freely , any way took it for a quik run dernt take it too far wi out anyy filter an the lights gone off no matter how much i put my foot down an iv been up the steepiest hills i can find an still no light , so tomoz im goin to give the sensor a clean see if that helps an put a new filter in its not the cleanest of filters but doesnt look too bad either i'v seen worse lol

cheers

Hi mate,

Could well have been a loose connection on the MAF, as you would have moved the MAF about when getting the filter out. whilst its disconnected give the connector a spray with WD40 or similar. Be very careful when cleaning the MAF sensor itself though, and dont use WD40 on it.

Good luck,
Alan

ok whats besst way to clean em as iv never done 1 before, do i take the safety type star drives bolts out ? sorry if a sound stupid just dont wanna spray the wrong bits lol

cheers

Hi mate

You dont need to remove the security torx screws from the MAF unit itself. Just undo the 2 jubilee clips at the top and bottom of the MAF and disconnect the wiring multi plug. Then spay some carb cleaner or brake cleaner on to the inside of the MAF. If there are any heavy deposits then clean them off carefully wit a cotton bud or similar.

Hi mate,

Yea the JTD is NOT fully OBDII compliant, and therefore only certain code readers/software will be able to read the fault codes.

I believe FiatEcuScan does support the JTD, but you also need to make sure you have the correct cable etc.

Alan
