(G) Fiat Punto Battery

I have just purchased a new battery for my Fiat Punto T reg 60S, according to the specification booklet at Costso (where the battery was purchased) the battery 12V/43Ah is compatible, however, when I got the battery home and took my old battery out, I found that the original battery is a 12V/40Ah.

Can I still use the new one being a 12V/43Ah or is that not compatible with my vehicle. Or is there little difference?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep it should be fine more Ah just means it will last a bit longer.

All batteries are 12V, but the important thing is Amps (different to Ah=Amp Hours). It needs at least as many amps as the old one because this is the important thing to start the engine. If it says so in the brochure then it should be good for that as well.

As far as my knowledge goes, if you use 1 Amp per hour it will last for 43 hours or something similar anywho.

Yes I think that's how it works. The Amp-Hours is how long the battery will last while the Amps itself is how much power the battery can deliver.

So for an example a big car might need a battery with a big Amp rating to get the starter motor going. The amp-hours just indicate how long you can leave the lights on before it goes flat!!

But as long as you've got as many amps as before the new battery will be fine, more amps or more amp-hours is fine, and you can get away with a few less amp-hours usually.

yeah whn i got new battery for me mk2 punto dam wierd shape they are by the way. but anyway when i got one my new bosch has more amps for better starting but 2amp hours less.

Was trying to start my Punto last night......but it was totally dead ! It had been standing still outside in -15 degrees celcius for 2 days, so my dad had to help me to start it whith his car. Do I have to buy a new battery now? Because it´s still a bit tricky to start when it´s cold outside. The car is only 3 years old. Anyone else whith this problem this early? I´ve heard there are two types of batterys in the Punto mk2, one small and one little bigger (I have the small one). And fiat told me the small one is a little to small for the swedish climate....hmm...why is it sold in sweden then ?

Guys, just to explain it to you, for example, 40 amp hours means that at 1 amp and 12v (i.e. 12 watts, power (watts) = current (amps) * voltages (volts) ) a battery will last 40 hours.

Ialiano, cold kills batteries sadly. Fiat can be silly like that If it was fine and didn't work after a few days in the cold and you know your alternator is working, you should look to replace it in the near future, once a battery isn't holding charge properly it's just a signal to say it will carry on being like that.

yep my battery went like that i know its not as cold here as there but, i gradually noticed that starting was poor, it would allways start but it turned over very slowly before it fired. then one day it really struggled took a few attempts. so put new battery in and i noticed a difference straight away.

get your self a new battery, also dont just settle for fiat battery. check out a few places that sell them and get one that fits but also has a the high amp rating teh rating for your battery should say on top of it. the more amps the more power to turn the engine over in the cold.

Thanks guys! Do you know if it´s possible to get a larger battery fitted in the box that the standars battery is in now? It does´nt seem like that but maby I can get a bigger batteryholder somewere!? A new battery here, is very expensive, is´nt it.....about £70-75

wo that is alot of money. the problem of mk2 puntos is that pastc box. when i got my new battery i could of had a fiat one for £60 or i got a Bosch one for £50 the bosch one had a slightly higher amp rating.

its not just physical size. some batterys of same size will have different power ratings.

Could´nt stand the "helpstart" every morning so I got a new battery from Fiat today. The brand was Global with 50 mah compare to the standard which is 44 mah! It works perfect But the cost were £75

price is bit but 50mah sounds good that new battery should solve ya problems

When i bought my Punto from a car auction a few weeks ago i discovered to my dismay when i went to pick it up a few days later, that the battery was the most dead battery i have ever encountered, it wouldn't even register anything on my multi meter. Due to the weird shape i also had to pay extra for a new one. The new one was slightly lower aH (about 35 iirc) however it has started the car no problems every time, even during the current wintery weather we are experiencing in E Scotland at the moment.

Having good oil ( ie doing an Oil change just before winter) will help in starting during cold weather, also ensuring that all of your ignition system is in good nick , coupled with protecting with a moisture dispersant ( WD40 , etc) will also assist.

Quickly disconnecting your battery and leaving it on an automatic 12v battery charger for a few hours, periodically throughout the winter is also good practice, especially if you do lots of small journeys with all of your heavy electrical loads on (Rear screen, lights, Heater fan , etc), even more so if you live in a colder country and have a powerfull ICE system pumping out the vibe's.

I am currently trying to replace the battery. I cannot seem to get the battery out as I am being stupid and cannot undo the clamp. the bolt is on the underside and cannot grip the bolt am i just being stupid? I am getting depressed. 2004 1.2 punto. Any help?
