:( It is with great sadness that I bring you this thread.

After having her looked at by the wee man at the garage, finding out the problem was brakes, I have made the painful decision to call it a day.

So, I am writing this thread for info, and I will get round to putting an ad up too. Wanted to detail stuff, so hence this.

The brakes, well the left brake is seizing, and the pads and discs are worn because of it. (that will be the burning smell). Fixable, at my garage he quoted about £240. Obviously less if you can do it yourself, or get the parts cheaper etc.

I am offering her up to anyone interested in her. Either with the intention of keeping her going, or for parts.
She has a lot of good bits on her, and the wee man says the engine is funkydory, all good.

If I could have done I would have broken her up and sold her as bits. I cannot. I wouldn't know where to start.

Hope this isn't breaking any forum rules by saying this, but if there was a Northerner member who was willing and able to help me break her up, I would sell the bits on and make a deal with the price. If anyone is interested in this, please PM me.

Otherwise is as a whole. I'll detail stuff in the ad. Along with photos.

I appreciate the advice, and have taken it all on board since my last thread and the advice on there. But I just cannot justify it anymore.

I really do have to make a decision and stick with it. Its not just the brakes, its the MOT, and tax.

I need to be sensible now and resize my car. I don't think you can get Punto extentsion :D. My children are fast all getting taller than me ( eldest is 6 foot and growing) and squeezing them into the back is yes, amusing for me to watch, but not all together ideal.

Yes, its horrible to give up and I must sound like a right whinge bag, but really unless it was pennies, I just cannot keep going. Those pounds need to be saved for the bigger car. My feet will just have to suffice for now.

On the up side of things, it does mean that she can be fixed by someone that can do it.

I'm just not oily fingered enough to be doing it myself.
Thank you though for the helpful hints. As always.

I appreciate the family space issue. When my first two were kids we had a VW Sharan and never felt we had too much space, though we also had 3 greyhounds who were not always in the "boot".

Ive just had another baby and the Punto HGT is less than ideal with a baby seat in the back, but we also have a boring but practical Focus.

Selling it makes sense, but if you got that brake sorted as others have said you would get a much better price. The quote you were given was really not good.

My HGT needed a new front caliper (£100) and I fitted new discs and pads all around (£170). Labour would have been £100 to do the lot. So for not so much more than you were quoted I got ALL of the brakes sorted out.
Even better the HGT caliper and brake parts are a lot more costly than the 1200 models. New calipers are about £60 and discs about £12 each. All easy to fit = low labour costs.

Hello again

Well things not going so well still. Made the decision to pass her on, and I can't even do that it would seem.

The car I loved so much doesn't seem to exist anymore, instead I am lumbered with a black thing on the driveway.

Had a couple of replies to the ad on here, one came of nothing, the other turned out not to be ideal for either of us as distance became a problem.

She was up on auction site, nothing happened even though I had interest and "watchers".

So I'm lost.

I'm sorry I don't have the name of the user that texted me from here, although I do have the number obviously.
Am wondering if there is any way that anyone can come up with a fabulous plan so haps said user could get her (if still wanted). Would be good for me, and said person.

The problem is distance. I am presuming from the text message I got, you're about 250 miles away from here? Midlands?

I wish I could find a way of getting it there. Right now, feels like I am continually doing this :bang:, I have left forehead imprints on several items in the house!

All you fabulous people, any good ideas? Can anyone help? Anyone up for working out a plan, doing a favour, anything? I'm at a loss right now.

Sorry, the alternative of getting her fixed, taxed and MOT is out of the question for me just now. Even though I wish I could. I can't.
