Re: Sparks out of exhaust

Sparks from your exhaust :S

You sure it's not blue smoke or a backfire?

Re: Sparks out of exhaust

Unless it was really due a service and it's burning any carbon depostits inside the exhaust.

If not check the inside of the backbox. The muffling inside that can start to come out when you need a new box and if it gets hot enough could create orange sparks

Have you seen it for yourself?

Re: Sparks out of exhaust

Unless it was a bad exhaust to start with. I just remember being ona friends off road bike one time and all the muffling from the exhaust was flying right out the back of it :P

It shouldn't be caked with carbon deposits if it's only a month old unless you're engine was running REALLY rich. Anyone else got any ideas if it's not what I mentioned.

Can you describe the sparks exactly though? What colour and coming from inside the exhaust?

orange sparks, shooting out the tail pipe, there is no back firing at all, just the sparks

Yeah I think that's the muffling coming out. Back box or mid silencer is fecked.
If it's only a month old you should have warranty?

I don't know if the inside of the cat can break up and cause it aswell though.
If you can't see by looking inside the tail pipe then if you're able, remove the backbox and see if it still does it from the mid silencer, if so remove that and see if it does it from the cat.
It's the only way I can think of to know for definate which it is. If they are coming out pretty fast and look 'fresh as they are coming out I'd suspect hte backbox. Although the pressure from the exhaust may be enough to force it out even from the mid silencer.

It will get worse the faster you go but if it's at slow speeds aswell I'd still say backbox
Thanks david295 thanked for this post

could thread from the exhausts braided flexi hose cause a spark tho? say its fraided inside when new backbox was put on with due force say. then bits of thread maybe heated up enough would glow and the pressure would shoot the bits of thread down the pipe????? just theory

Not really, the flexi is made of material that's too thick to just break up like that and you'd really notice it. The muffling inside and exhaust is very similar to cotton wool but made of very fine metal

It is fine but it's like comparing cotton wool to fuse wire
