Injection System Failure Warning Light

This light is continually on when the ignition is on and only goes out when the engine starts. According to the manual the light should go out after a few secs. Car is a 1.2 8v Mia 2001.
Any ideas anyone?

Re: Injection System Failure Warning Light

That is right, the light goes out only when the engine is started. With the ignition on and the engine not running then the light will be ON

Re: Injection System Failure Warning Light

The manual states that it should go out when the ignition is on after a few seconds. Other Puntos I have seen do go out.

Not the ignition light - the "injection system failure warning light"

Re: Injection System Failure Warning Light

Sorry to drag up an old post. I have a Punto 1.2 mia 8v that has been used for picking the kids up from School with no problems at all for the last 2-3 years.

It's no longer needed and so I thought I'd sell it. Now though the injection system failure light is constantly on.

I read through the Haynes manual, and they recommend checking and replacing the air filter and plugs. Filter was found to be pretty grotty so replaced that. Plugs and HT leads ok, gapped and cleaned plugs.

Before gapping and cleaning plugs at idle engine didn't sound quite right, however it seems to have improved now, but the warning light is still on
.

Any ideas.

Re: Injection System Failure Warning Light

I had the same problem earlier this year.
No noticeable symptoms apart from the Engine Management Light.
Turned out to be failed downpipe Lambda Sensor. HTH

Hyper

Thanks for the reply. Did you change the sensor yourself, or go to a garage?.

If a garage did the job, how much did it set you back?.

Cheers

Re: Injection System Failure Warning Light

You can get a diagnostic from a garage to read any stored fault codes and confirm the cause of the warning light as I did.

If it is the Lambda, about 65 + fitting, or get one of ebay.

Re: Injection System Failure Warning Light

hi, I had the same problem on my punto. I first bought a cheap sensor off of ebay, but it just didnt help, i then changed the water temp sensor as this also seemed to be broken, but that didnt help, so i went to a auto supply shop and bought a sensor for about £30, and the light hasnt come on since.

Dean

I assume you're talking about the lambda sensor yeah. Thirty quid seems reasonable, what's it like to change, easy or a pig?.

Looks like I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Cheers

Re: Injection System Failure Warning Light

Sorry, can I drag this one up too!

Slightly different problem - the car (a punto 1.2 petrol, X reg (is that 2001?) has lost nearly all power and the injection system failure warning light has come on. I took it to the garage on Saturday and his diagnostic thingy said it was the ignition coil, he said it was best to replace both of these and it would cost me about 100 including fitting.

Just rung they garage and he's working on it now (it's not a Fiat dealer btw) and says it doesn't look like it's the coil so he's looking to see what else it might be.

So - can anyone shed any light on what it might be, and how much it might cost as this is what's worrying me?!

Thanks.

Take it to a FIAT dealer! (often works out cheaper in long run!)

(ask for your money back on the coils seeing as they mis-diagnosed it.)

Re: Injection System Failure Warning Light

i have a punto 1.2 petrol reg X.
the injection system failure warning light was on so I took it to a local garage.
checked for fault codes on ECM
Problem P0351- ignition coil fault
P0105 - man pressure sensor
Garage told me they replaced spark plugs and substituted new coils, but no different. Most likely cause in an ECM (engine computer fault).
he suggested I take it to a fiat dealership, but it might be VERY expensive and the same thing could happen again in 6 months' time. Is that true? Just HOW expensive is it gonna be to fix and is it gonna be fixed??
thanks, im desperate
