I have just got a new battery for my Punto Sporting. When I've gone to fit it, I've found that the +ve terminal connection won't tighten up enough to grip the terminal (the -ve one fits fine). So far as I could see when I bought it, the battery and its terminals are exactly the same sizes as on the old one. Is there anything I can do (like wrapping something round it) to bulk up the terminal so the connector will grip it? I've fitted lots of batteries in the past, but not come across this problem before...?!

I had this problem with my new battery. I just folded up a strip of foil and wrapped it round one side of the terminal to make a sort of shim so it could tighten up :slayer:

The battery should have bigger terminals. I have the same problem. I just got a coke can and cut a section out. Folded it up and jammed it in one side between the battery and wire.
Keeps it tight just don't put it round the whole terminal - you want as much of the wire to be touching the actual terminal as possible

A Small Piece of Copper Plating is a good Alternative
Copper is 2nd best conductor (Gold is 1st)

Ziggy

Gold isnt a spectacular conductor but it doesnt corrode so used on contacts. Aluminium is a better conductor than copper but not so good mechanically.

A piece of lead flashing can give a good packer for the connector clamp. Clean the metal shiny and use petroleum jelly to protect the metal.
