Hi
I have an MOT problem with my punto, it is showing following readings for emission
CO 9.96% should be 0.3%
HC 740 ppm should be 200
lambda 0.72 should be between 0.97 and 1.03

The garage has asked both catalytic converter and sensor to be replaced at a cost of about 500, I want to know whether these readings suggest a definite failure or something can be done to tune? also are both components failed ?
The car had a fault code P0130 recorded in fault code but EMS light is not on now.
The car drives OK and has been recently serviced as well.

i agree with whitesei, Try the lamba sensor first, as that reads the CO2 Rating in the cat, if the sensor plays up, the wrong amount of fuel is given and yours car isn't ejecting the right fumes

if the sensor has been giving a false reading for a while the cat then may be Caked up

A good hard Run (ie Exercise the engine well in each gear) and good long run with a cleaner in will help clear the cat out

And Hopefully A pass for your MOT

Ziggy

No, not so far, I am taking it to another garage today to recheck.
