Well, if it's anything like the 1.2 8v engine in a 2000 Mk2 then it's not too bad but a bit faffy.
Apparently Fiat will sell you a shim removal tool but I levered the valve down with a large screwdriver and then wedged it in place with a small hardwood block - this needs to only engage with the edge of the carrier because you'll need the shim free so that you can flip it up with a small flat-bladed screwdriver.
If you find that a couple need re-shimming then it might be worth your while to pop out and replace each of the shims in turn (do this one at a time AND remember where they came from) and check the values on them. That way you may be able to swap a few around and save having to buy some more.
Fiat will sell you the shims (if they have them in stock) but I've also read that shims from some Ford Diesel engines have the same dimensions.
You'll also need to reseal the camshaft cover with four blobs of instant gasket (or similar) where it curves over the camshaft bearings and may want to replace its gasket.
