orite guys i have a mk2 punto sporting and i want to relocate my battery to the boot a couple of reasons, better weight distribution, i think it will look better in my engine bay and also i will then move the fuse box further over so that it is easy to change the headlight without dropping bumper.
i no most of you will probably say theres no point or it isnt worth the hassle but i want to do it and i was wondering as i have looked at all the battery relocation kits on internet and they come with enought live cable but they only come with a short piece on earth to go from battery to chassis but i was wondering what i would have to do with the old negative terminal could i just earth it and everything will be fine ?
and also the kits are quite expensive would it be possible to make my own as i want to put into the spare wheel well if it is deep enough
also any feedback would be appreciated if you have done this before
thanks
adam

You will need a long extension on the red +ve lead, but the earth can be bolted down anywhere convenient for the new battery. Just make sure the engine to chassis earth isnt taken off.

Weight distribution - TBH it wont make much difference and the boot space will be cluttered with battery. It will still be lop sided unless you want the batt down the middle of the boot. All fine (maybe) until you need that space and when you do, it will be one of those times when its a serious PIA to deal with. The battery will also be at risk of damage - under the bonnet its out of the way.

Under the seat is one option, but make sure there is enough space with a person sitting in the seat.

Moving the fuse box is easy enough, but the wiring is unlikely to be suitable. Most likely it will have to be extended. You can expect lots of problems with that job soldering and heat shrinking the connections x 2 because you will be splicing in extension pieces.

You could consider two small flat (as in low height) batteries - use 2 x 6V in series. Do not use 2 x 12V in parallel as one will always grab the charge and the other goes flat. A split charger relay is possible but that wont cope with starting currents so 12V x 2 isnt practical or reliable.
