My rocker gasket is leaking oil, I know this because i got a mechanic to check it out. How much am I looking at to replace the rocker gasket, and can it be done by myself?

Easy to do on your own, costs about £5

What model you have and engine size? 8v or 16v aswell?

It's a 1999 punto selcta sx 1.2L, 8v. Easy job then? Were can i get the rocker gaskets itself? scrapyard?

No you need a new gasket, only a few quid from any motoring shop. They'll order it in. MK1 Im not familiar with but 8v is the easiest.

On the mk2 it's just 4 bolts, rocker cover off. Be sure not to get anything into the open Camshaft compartment, especially not down the oil holes (whatever name they may have)

Clean both surfaces, new gasket on and bolt back up, not too tight as this will make it leak again but tight enough so it doesn't leak also :p

I tighten them untill the point where a bit of effort is needed and then 2/3's of a turn more! Should do it.

Aswell as the gasket if the mk1 has pain in the ass corners like the mk2 has then maybe get a small tube of instant gasket to give it that bit better seal

Hi mate :)

Above advice was spot on mate, very good. But if this is any help..I used this grey sealant that for the life of me I cant remember the name of (sorry) but it came in a small tube from my nearest Vauxhall stealership. Its unbelievable stuff mate, NOTHING gets past it once its dry.

The parts man told me they use it on sumps where there is no gasket.

I believe it is available in little tubes from yer average car shop as well. Sorry I cant remember the name, all the car techs seem to just call it **** as it really does stick to anything lol.

Good luck mate (y)
