hello everyone i am new to this forum i have recently came across a problem with my radiator fan its not kicking in i have had it checked and theres no problem with the fuse , relays , head gasket ,water level is fine can any1 please help me to figure out why my fan isnt working . if im traveling the car temp is fine but if im stuck at light it sometimes slighty goes over the half way mark but the fan never kicks in at all any help would be great

many thanks

john

Have you made sure that the fan is working? If you make up a patch lead and connect it directly to the battery and it doesn't turn then you need to replace the fan. If it spins up normally then suspect the thermostatic switch!

Obviously go through the circuit and check that all the contacts are good, all plugs plugged and nothing corroded or melted.

You've taken two wires directly to the fan from the battery and it doesn't work.

Fan motor goosed.

Cheers

Did you try it both ways round? The fan will only turn when the leads are connected the right way round.

If you're not getting movement when you connect it directly to the power supply then your fan need replacing.

yes i tryed the wires both ways and still nothing if the fan is shot any1 got 1 lol or no anywere where i can get a 2nd hand cheap 1 any help thanks

john

Look for local scrap dealers, they might well have one you can nab. Of course a second hand one you might get the same problems, is up to you!

no i didnt lol right i will go try now il put wires from my battery to a bulb and turn ignition to on then if it lights the bulb up il re test the wires in the fan motor itself then get bak to to u all thanks

john

i dont want to sound like a complete mong but i cant even get the bulb to come on lol but im sure im doing it correctly does it have to be a main bulb because we only got energy saving bulbs lol

john

Ahhh that'll be the problem then, 1/20th of the required voltage.

A 12v bulb is what you need, any spare from the car will do, except for headlight bulbs, they get a wee bit warm and you tend to drop them!

Hi, I hope you don't mind me jumping in but I also have a Fiat Punto Active Sport 55 plate (not had it that long). Our fan also doesn't work (moves freely when you manually turn it). If we're sitting in traffic for any length of time the temperature gauge goes to red then the warning light comes on, runs at normal when moving and goes back to normal fairly quickly once we start moving again. My husband checked the fuse and it had blown. Could that be all the problem is or could there be a more sinister issue as to why the fuse blew?? Never owned a Fiat before.
Thanks, any info would be gratefully received.

Just put new fuse in and blew it out straight away. Anyone know what the problem could be?? HELP!!

I'm hating cars at the moment!!!

Don't worry, you're not jumping in. No one has commented on here for over 4 years!

I had a similar problem with my Punto earlier in the year. Bought a replacement fan and assembly for £15 and fitted it myself.
Have you seen or heard your fan running recently?
