..while it suppose to go off after engine starting as i read from the manual(mk2 punto)
does this means something wrong??

its not flashing niether staying out it just goes out after few seconds and before cranking the engine same as the power steering light

Should be on for about 4 seconds while it does the POST (Power On Self Test).

red

no it should turn off after you start the engine but mine turns off after few seconds.. any theores?

it never goes off straight away at starting the engine. as red says it stays lit a few seconds to do a test. its completely normal.

you also say its same as power steering light. is it same as oil pressure light? abs light if you have it? airbag light etc etc. they all stay on a few seconds. some longer than others but not by much. to me your worried about nothing. if your realy worried go to a mechanic to do a check

I said it goes off BEFORE starting the engine and it acts exactly like the power steering light and NOT like the oil pressure and battery lights

if its red light then your car is non-eobd

earlier ducatos (244) warning lights are red and go out after self test before engine is started.

so this is normal!!.. wow that's a relief .. thanx so much (y)

BTW whats non-eobd??

eobd stands for European On Board Diagnostics, and is a legal requirement on all cars sold in the EU since 2001. OBD does exactly what it says on the tin. It allows a common interface to be used to plug in to the vehicles ecu and a series of standardised codes allows the mechanic to diagnose faults that the ecu has recorded.

T14806, are you sure about the "red for non eobd, orange for eobd" thing? My mk2 has a red engine management light. It's pre compulsory obd, being a 1999 car, but it has the obd socket on the fusebox! I've not plugged it in but looks like it should be compliant.
