I've got a friend with a 51 plate Punto GO!

The car is currently a little poorly and seems to have defeated me.

Starting from the beginning, Lamba sensor changed about 6 months ago as MIL was illuminated, MIL went out for about 45min after change, and then came back on and he just put up with it.

Then exhaust went a few months ago, friend took it into the spanner monkeys at the local college who said it just needed new clamps.

They then later said that it wasn't the clamps and that it needed welding.

He gets car back and it seems they've fixed it, until 10miles later the blowing returns. Then another 10miles later and the car starts juddering and there is a total loss of power.

He then took it to a garage that diagnosed it needing a new CAT and exhaust, which he got done.

This was to no avail to the juddering issue, and he's told he'll need a new ECU.

I've gone around tonight with code reader and spare coil packs, believing that it might just need a replacement pack.

Codes brought up were;
  • P0135 - O2 Sensor, Bank 1, Sensor 1
  • P0351 - Ignition Coil, Primary/secondard A
After changing rear coil (one that made no different if disconnected when the engine was running), there was no difference.

So what could be the issue?

Jon.

Thanks for the quick response Beau.

A few further questions.

  • Will ECU be repairable (DIY) (is it likly to be so dry solder joints etc?)?
  • Where is ECU likly to be located on this Punto?
  • Replacement ECU if needed, will a 2nd hand one do, or does it need to be new?
  • Any idea's on Price anyone?
Thanks again (y)

google punto ecu failure, there are websites explaining what goes on them, where they are, who repairs them, etc, its pretty common :)

i think i see somewhere did it for £125.

Hi this is the Punto owner in question (finally joined the forum thx to Jon =D)

Thx for the links and info provided hopefully can get it all sorted soon, I was just wondering if it is the ECU what is the quickest road to getting the car sorted (and hopefully the cheapest) ?

Thanks :)
