hi there, so i've downloaded the software and had a look but couldnt find my car. I have a 2002 1.2 8V and could only find the 2003 1.2 8V will this still work?

i've ordered the cable so it is just a case of waiting for that to arrive and then its good to go.

btw does anyone have any advice when it comes to scanning the ecu e.g. car electrics on/off, method etc

Fiat Punto '99 1.2 8v is listed as a supported car (Mk2 in other words)

jonyid,

Assuming you went for a USB lead, you'll need to install an FTDi driver for the virtual serial port that is in the OBD plug end of the lead. Mine came with a driver on a mini CD but I downloaded newer version from FTDi site.

In use, plug the lead into the OBD socket, which is in the fusebox on the drivers side, just above the bonnet release. You need to release the fusebox cover first (two screws, quarter turn with a coin).

You need the ignition on to power the ECU. You can keep it plugged in while you start the engine if you want dynamic data. It is pretty easy to use software.

I'm getting an error regarding serial port latency too high (despite setting it as low as possible via device manager). Would be interested to know if you experience similar. It doesn't seem to affect use though, I have got data out and been able to reset the logged faults and put the light out.

It looks like it is capable of communicating with other controllers (airbags, ABS, etc.) but to do that needs a small wiring change in the OBD plug. I haven't tried that yet but there's adequate information on the FiatECUScan site.

Try turning off "flow control" on the virtual serial port (y)

aahhh so i use the plug which is in the fusebox inside the car, thought it was under the bonnet. thanks for the advice, will try it and hopefully it will come up with the required data (error code & how to clear the light on the dash)

red i did go for the usb lead but i am using my netbook so i dont know how i can use the lead without the driver (no cd drive) do you know where i can download it from?

i will use the '99 1.2 8v for my mk2, presuming the 2003 1.2 8v is for the mk2b?

so got it working (didnt have the correct COM port linked up) and got the following error codes:

P0141-O2 SENSOR (12) O2 Sensor Heater Cct Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P0135-O2 SENSOR (6) O2 Sensor Heater Cct Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

would be appreciated if someone could enlighten me as to what is needed to fix them

so i've worked it out that both lambda sensors are in need of replacing and have found a pair on ebay for £35 each. if they are genuine fiat parts then i'll be snapping them up and sorting them out within the next week with a mate who can MOT it at the same time

Are the faults recurring after you clear them?

Are you confident that there are no issues with the connectors to the Lambda sensors before you go for renewal? All electrical connectors on Puntos seem to be suspect and should be "first port of call" when faulting.

red.

the faults are recurring and the light has reappeared on the dashboard. i've not checked the electrical connections, will have a look tomorrow if the weather holds. would a simple clean of the connector cause a fault?

ok will get my mechanic mate to have a look asap and find out which is the problem. i do however think it could be the sensors as both have gone (bank 1 sensor 1 & 2)

cool, my mate is gonna have a look at it on tuesday for me (run it through an emissions test then clean connections if it fails that)

ChrisUK,

Re: Latency error, flow control was already off. For now I'm ignoring the error because other than that, it seems to be working OK.

Bought a copy of this with a lead for nearly £34 to find the copy I have been sold is the same FREE copy you get from the internet albeit V.3.2, not happy, does anyone have a product key they would be willing to share for a small donation to the forum or free so I don't have to fork out another XX amount to get the bloody thing up and running, think I've been ripped off enough when it comes to Fiat.

For £34 including a lead, it sounds as though you've bought a fake copy.

Yani, the author of FES is a member of this forum, we do not condone the illegal use of copies of his software.

A shared key wouldn't work anyway because it is dependant on the hardware key generated by your laptop.

Information on how to register a legitimate copy is here: http://www.fiatecuscan.net/Register.aspx
