Hi all

Can anyone shed some light on an engine warning light that comes up on my Punto - its the 1.2 8v Active sport version, 2004 model.

Some background - I had the coils replaced 3 months and the car ran smoothly up until the last week or so. The warning light has come on and Ive done a bit of research but I'm reluctant to take it to a Fiat dealership if the problem can be diagnosed at home. Ive also had the power steering light come on in the past but its intermittent and isnt on at the moment.

I was thinking about buying a code reader to diagnose the problem. Will this tell me exactly what the fault is or will it just give me an error code?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Depends on the code reader, some give you a code others tell you. Even a code if you post it on here someone will tell you what the code means. As for the steering light, replace your battery and that will stop

A code reader will give you a code.

Google will tell you what it means, but sometimes a code can be an effect rather than a cause. A proper diagnostic machine will be able to ping individual sensors to make sure you get the right diagnosis.

Most local autosparks have Examiner clones these days, so you will be able to get a scan done cheaper than the glass showroom.

Power steering is power sensitive, if you are manouevering at low speed with the HRW, blower, lights etc etc on, the alternator charge will drop below that required to operate the EPS.

If the light is coming on in these circumstances, turn something off.

Cheers
