just changed my punto headgasket had it skimmed and put new seals and gaskets into it, ive topped up the radiator with only water and is losing it, is there a special coolant for it to help it?
Its a 1.2 16V
i took it for a spin today, was QUICKER than i expected for a 1.2, very nippy and a i was keeping a eye on the temp gauge and its not going above the half way marker and my fan heater is blowing Red HOT Air when i turn it on, do you think it might have ironed out the creases by itself?
Its possible the air bubbles got pushed through causing the coolant level to drop.
It all sounds good but leaks don't fix themselves. You need to be 100% sure its all solid or that head gasket wont last long. They usually fail because the "water" level has dropped. Go over everything really carefully if necessary loosen pipes at high level to see if coolant comes out.
When its all checked out, you MUST put proper coolant in and properly rebleed the pipes. Don't leave it because iron and aluminium react; leading to corroded galleries, blocked rads and another blown head gasket quicker than you'd expect.
