thinking of having my cambelt changed simply because is done around 42k and im unsure when it was last done, tempted to get water pump and fanbelt done at the same time just for the hell of it. its a 1.2 16v sporting.

whats the average price for a cambelt change (incl. tensioner) and water pump?

is it worth having the the fanbelt changed aswell while im at it?

if people can post prices of what they have paid for that work mentioned it would be a big help so i get a good idea of whether the quotes are about right.

cheers
matt

Water pump + timing belt kit + labour = £231.48 for me (on my 1.2 8v punto)

I was thinking of having a bash at this myself in the summer, but erm...my water pump erm...just about fell off!! Seeing as we have no forecasted good weather, and I have nowhere safe (read: sheltered) to do it, having to suck it up and pay up :(

I was told a cambelt change would cost between £80 - £100 but not sure about the other stuff.

The 16V will cost more to do than the 8V as it needs special cam locking blocks. Check the parts on Shop4parts.

Don't delay as it's very expensive when the belt fails.

that seems alot, seeing as you the belt kit & pump costs £50 for both (or £25 if cheaper parts), so thats like £150 labour

£120 labour, so not far off lol

However, they are the only garage I've found in town that can do the work in the time frame required (as in ASAP) :(

well ask what there hourly rate is.
£40 apparently...they're saying 3 hour job. I don't have much choice, as I'm looking at a fortnight + before anyone else will even look at it :( And I'm going away next weekend lol

I got Water Pump + Cambelt kit fitted for £120 from independant garage in kent area.

I got the pump and kit for like 50 I think.

my punto 1.2 16v belt + tensioner was £30 to buy but that's a Mk1 model.

Garage i'd imagine would be around £250 mark.

And on the belt there are theories between 36k and 72k but imo it depends on your driving. If your doing lots of short runs then i'd go shorter but at 42k unless it's more than 6 years old i wouldn't worry too much about it yet.

Oh and when i did mine i messed the timing up and had fumes coming out the airbox, engine out by 180 degrees on the bottom end. And if the Mk1 engine is similar to the Mk2 engine the "special tool" is a 10mm allen key.

it's a 02 plate with nearly 43k so I think I will have it done anyway, going to have water pump done too. Not doing myself one of those things I wouldn't want to attempt, leaving it to a garage lol

I know someone has mentioned 3hours labour is that about the average a garage would recommend

got timing belt kit and water pump for £71 and have a quote of £138 to have them fitted tomorrow. The quote including parts was £238, but i sourced the parts cheaper worked out even cheaper than shop4parts too.

the Timing belt kit is made by Dayco and the Water pump is QH.

dont seem to bad, just make sure they have the timing tools if they do it without then that price is very expensive cos it wont take more than an hour and would be 'slightly' out of time.

timing tools cost pennies to make for the Mk1 so if it's similar to Mk2 (3 lengths of bar (bottom end) and a 10mm allen key (top end) then £138 for 3 hours labour is about right as it took me 2 hours to do so including paper work + test run then 3 will be better.
