My 01 Fiat Punto failed its MOT today due to failed power steering. I now need to replace the motor urgently. Does anyone know whether one from a scrap merchant will go straight into my vehicle or is there some kind of coding issue? Is there anything I should bear in mind before purchasing?

Think the best thing to do is just do a search on here (search button at the top) for power steering. There's been lots written on the subject as sadly its a bit of a weak spot on our cars.

Surely you would have known the steering had gone before the MOT?

There are various ones. You need the 4 digit serial number off yours. It`s located at bottom of coloum just past the trim. You have to be almost upside dwn to see it.There is a row of numbers but just 4 in bold & thats the ones you need.
