Hi,
i have a fiat punto elx 2000, 1.2 v8, which is overheating, the radiator isnt getting hot at all. I have flushed the water out of the system and refilled it and added antifreeze. When i took all the water out of the system, i initially put hot water in the system, this went round the radiator because i could feel it heating up slightly. i then filled the reservoir bottle but didnt put the cap on it then i disconnected the fan (to see if the rad was gettting hot) and turned the engine on and noticed bubbles/air comming up out of the water bottle and the amount of water in the bottle went down, so i topped it up again. as the engine was getting hotter, the radiator was getting hot too (as normal), i left the engine running to make sure water was being pumped round fully until the radiator was getting too hot and the temperature gauge started rising above half, i then reconnected the fan and the temperature went back to half. then i turned the engine off and waited for the car to cool down, as it cooled the water went down slightly (as expected) and i topped it up with antifreeze and put the cap back on the bottle. Thinking the problem had been solved, i took it for a test, but the car is still overheating, just not as quickly as before. The radiator is still cold.

The pipe going into the radiator is getting hot and the pipe comming from the reservior is getting hot but the radiator isnt, it only gets hot if i take the cap on the reservior off and the car never overheats when the fan is connected with the cap off.
Its almost as if, when theres no pressure in the cooling system, it works correctly.

Also the blowers in the car only blow out cold air which i think is linked in with this problem.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? i quite sure it isnt a blockage in the radiator.

Thanks in advanced,
Tony
