I've had an ongoing problem that even my fiat specialist garage has been unable to diagnose.

When I try to start the engine, it turns over and starts but then cuts out when the key turns back. However, if I put my foot on the accelerator it starts every time. I have noticed that when the car has been running for some time, 20 mins or so, it will sometimes start without my foor on the accelerator.

Initially when I had this issue, the engine management light came on. Diagnosis said it was the speed sensor, the garage tried replacing this but said the starting issue wasn't resolved so put the old one back in (could the problem be that they didn't update the codes after replacing it?).

I still have the starting issue and now the power steering light is sometimes coming on, haven't noticed any change in my steerting power though.

Any ideas? Could this all be linked to needing a new speed sensor?

Any help would be really appreciated as no garage seems to be able to tell me what to do.

it simply needs a software update

So I assume I just take it to the dealer, get them to replace the speed sensor again and update the software? Is that relatively cheap?
