Please can you advice me.

I have a 1.2 8v 2002 Punto which has just had the head gasket and skim done along with water pump and cam belt. Before this was done there was a very slight misfire when on idle, but now idle is all over the place and sometimes stalls and when driving ther car you can feel a misfire most of the time, but then the car will be fine on idle and when driving for a about ten minutes and then revert back to a misfire.

The garage which completed the work now say that I need to replace the ECU mounted on the throttle body

Do you Agree

Thanks

Not quite up to spec on the 2002 punto so is the
throttle cable or fly by wire (electronic control)

First I'd ask the garage to doublecheck the timing
is set correct on the timing belt. Second is the tick
over irratic when the engine has reached operating
temperature or when on choke.

If it's when it's warm I'd suspect lamba sensor if
the cars high milage or if the coolant went through
the exhaust as it can kill a lambda. But needs confirming
with diagnostic prior to replacement.

Then I'd do a search on the forum for irratic tickover
and stalling it may be the trottle body need cleaning.

Timing been checked and its a lot worse when engine is warm.
The throttle is cable, and no error codes show up on a diganostics.

Thanks for your help

Worse when hot hints at the Lambda sensor as the ECU ignores it until engine is hot. If the spark plugs are sooty I'd say begin with the Lambda.

Will check tonight and confirm if its worse when warm.
Also when the head gasket was done all plugs and leads were changed.

Thanks

If its running rich the plug ends will be black. Dirty plugs will missfire, but an over rich mixture can be caused by a faulty Lambda sensor so get it checked to rule it out.
