Has anyone ever fitted a stand alone temperature gauge? if so which one did you fit and how easy was it,i dont like the idea of waiting for a red light which by that time could be too late.

I'd say the EASIEST option would be to get the dash from a SX and just get the temperature sensor from the SX aswell and hey presto it's done.

No wiring required... just replacing the dash and replacing the sensor. what car are we talking about anyways?? lol mk1?
if so you'd have a non-working rev counter/tachometer as well so If you want to know the wiring for that I can tell ya. but it is all in this guide anyway !

its a basic 2002 mk2 1.2 8v------ i was thinking of making a remote bracket (just to house a temperature gauge) to fix just below the dash as i didnt really want to disturb anything if i didnt have to.---- thanks

Is what i am suggesting a difficult thing to do?-- as the wiring would be new and not existing---i am really keen to have a temperature gauge in this car but dont want to disturb the dashboard.

Re: Installing a Rev counter and water temp gauge

It would mean breaking into the coolant system somewhere to install a t-piece connector with a seperate temperature sensor in it. You would need to run wires from a 12v source to this and from it to the display in the cabin.

It would probably be better to swap dashboards and temperature sensors with a higher spec model, however on a mk2 i believe you need to then take it to fiat to have the milage reset on the dash.

No, all you'd need to do is find out which is + and - from the dashboard for the temp sensor and just splice it or just cut those wires and move it to the new gauge or whatever you want to use. but the old clocks will have to come out to gain access to the wiring
