come off the motorway friday and my punto MK2 y reg (2000) 1.2 8v just cut out and wouldn't re start.
recovery man said fuel pump seized.. it hadn't we've bought 2 more since then and now it seems no electric is getting to the pump.

HELP
ANY IDEAS
i here it could be the fuel pump relay, where is this, is it easy to fix(how), cost etc???
fuses seem fine
could be a cut off switch we are told under carpet in passenger foot well.
now someone says engine crank sensor.. again what is it what would the problem be, ho fixed , cost etc

NEED ADVICE ASAP... PLEASE ANYBODY... WE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CARS

It should be level, depressed means it's cut off iirc.

How do i reset the fuel cut off. PUNTO MK2 1.2 8V Y REG

How oh how

Re: How do i reset the fuel cut off. PUNTO MK2 1.2 8V Y REG

There is a button on the sill by the passenger seat, press it. If it is pressed down already it was cut off.

If it presses down when you press it and comes back up again it was never cut-off.

Re: How do i reset the fuel cut off. PUNTO MK2 1.2 8V Y REG

So if it was down how does it reset

It pops up when its cut the earth to the pump, you push it down to reset it (if it will reset, mine was knackered and would'nt). You can test it by shorting the two wires out to prove it (take the conector off the bottom and connect the two wires together).

Obviously fit a new one though if it is faulty, its a safety feature.

I seem to be having a similar problem on a y reg 1.2 16v - although it was taken to a local garage by the RAC.

Car starts if power is applied directly to fuel pump, but won't start normally.

At first a break in the circuit between the fuse & the relay was hinted at but the mechanic has checked all this out & reckons it's a bad earth somewhere.

Does this sound feasable - how is it resolved?

Thanks for the reply.

The car was fine on Friday, came to start it on Monday morning & it was dead - turning over but not firing, no petrol getting through.

As mentioned, the RAC man started it by running power direct to petrol pump.

Any ideas what it could be?

I'm not in a position to take it to a dealer as it's already with a mechanic - the RAC man got it started & followed me down to a local garage (where I usually get any repairs/mot/servicing etc done).

What was the problem/fix on the occasions in the past?

Can anyone else offer advice as to what may be causing this fault?

Thanks.

is it the crank sensor (yreg punto mk 2 1.2 8v)

no power getting to the fuel pump

Re: is it the crank sensor (yreg punto mk 2 1.2 8v)

Won't be the crank sensor causing it, since the fuel pump is activated for 2 seconds to pressurise the line when you switch the ignition to 'on' you should be able to hear it whirring when you twist the key.

Re: is it the crank sensor (yreg punto mk 2 1.2 8v)

A faulty crank sensor would either mean the car wouldn't start, or you'd get the EML dash light and if not that the car would play up with starting sometimes.

To be honest you should hear the fuel pump kicking in, as mentioned above. If not check your fuel relay!
