hey all!

im new tothis forum and am looking for a bit of help with my GF's Fiat Punto 1.2 elx problem 2002 model as im trying to fix it for her and am having issues

her punto starts but the engine light comes on and when you press the throttle there is little or no revs and the car shakes like a mother !

somebody has told me its the crank shaft sensor that needs replacing so before i go and buy one could this be the case ? or could it be the lambda sensor ?

also is there any directions of how to change it ? i know its a simple task and the part is cheap but wanna do it myself as we are both pretty skint!

thanks in advance for any advice

:)

thanks for that t14086 !:)

as its running like crap does that mean its misfiring ?? ie only firing on two cylinders ?? !!

if it is the ECU that needs replacing, and the coils from what i have read, how much would it set me back ? i can fit it myself!

Read it again, it's a faulty coil or the EFI ECU. ;)

Many people replace all three parts needlessly, then moan at the cost. :bang:

Many different things can cause rough running. It is unlikely to be the crank sensor though. Any problem with that and the engine cuts out.

Back to basics,
Remove each spark plug. If one is wet/caked up or very sooty then you have identified which cylinder(s) is playing up. Most common issue is with an ignition coil, in which case 2 plugs will not look good. If only one plug is contaminated, then it could be plug, plug lead, fuelling or mechanical problem with that cylinder.
