Punto HGT Rear Wheel Bearing & Clutch!

Hi all, i've recenty got a 2001 punto hgt and im really enjoying it! anyway, I need a new rear wheel bearing, are these straightforward to do? is there any guide anywhere or anything I should be avoiding?

I tried to get a haynes manual for the hgt but it doesn't look like they do one??? do they? which is the best haynes manual to get if they dont do one for the hgt?

One last thing! I think there is something wrong with the gearbox. Im used to my gearstick defaulting to the center when i put it in neutral but it doesn't. The gearstick seems stiff and doesn't default to the center so its difficult to find 3rd and 4th gear sometimes. Any ideas what this could be, a bush needs replacing maybe?

Grateful for any advice from you gurus :worship:, cheers.

Can't get a haynes for the HGT.

Rear wheel bearing is easy peasy, you need a 32mm socket and breaker bar though.

You need to remove a bush and sand it with 1500 grit wet and dry. Take the battery tray out to get access to the bit at the back of the box. Pop the selector cables off the joints and undo the ut on the end of the shaft then slide it out. It'll be tight to get out. Sand till it slides around in place nicely and it's nice and clean.

Here's the bit:

Here's it cleaned and removed:

I had the same problem and it sorted it.

Hey welcome to the HGT club :) Just a lil question if you dont mind.
Does you car make like a strange whirring noise when you push the clutch down? No-one seems to know if its normal or not?

Many Thanks

nope it doesn't. I take it your gearstick defaults to the center when you take it out of gear? not sure whats up with mine.

Just read what I wrote and I didn't explain that the section about cleaning up the bush is for the gearstick centering issue incase there's any confusion.
