I have a 2001 Punto 1.2 8v mk2 62,000miles which has developed the following faults in the order given:
1) ECU problem - whilst driving home last week the MAR light came on and the engine started idling eractically and fast. The AA and local garage both read the fault as a faulty MAP sensor. The garage tried a new sensor but fault remained. They then tried a new complete throttle body as it was thought the idle control valve was faulty. This again did not clear the fault. The garage believe it is the ECU which is at fault and advised the cost of replacement is prohibitive. They have left the idle control disconnected and manullay adjusted the idle so that the car starts but is a bit lumpy until after a couple of minutes it runs fine and drives OK. However the MAR light stays on. As a replacement ECU from ECU testing is not so costly I will try this as a solution.
2) Heater Fan problem - this started just before the ECU problem with initially the fan stopping working on positions 1-3. It worked fine on 4. On getting the car back from the garage the heater fan does not work at all and in position 4 the control now switches the sidelights on. I will try the link fix across the connector for the heater fan suggested on other threads and see if that works. I will report back.
3) Light and Indicator Switch / Stalk - This fault has only just been found ( 1 day after return of car from garage with ECU fault). Dipped head light switch works OK. Left Indciator switch works OK. However no right indicators when the stalk is moved to switch them on (All bulbs ok as all light up with the hazard lights switched on). Also if main beam is switched on the dipped lights go off and there is no main beam. If the stalk has dipped lights on and you put the stalk in right indicator position and then put main beam on the main beam works and the right indicators work.
Help needed. Are these faults all linked or is it just a coincidence.
