Hi all - I only picked up my new 54 1.2 16v Active Sport 48 hrs ago and have already killed the awful standard head unit :)

Went to Halfords for a mooch round this afternoon and picked up the following head unit this morning:-

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=3060

However, upon taking out existing head unit and putting new one in nothing happened. Closer examination reveals that no power is being supplied to the red lead into the unit (!). One solution was to fuse the yellow wire (power through this one) onto the red wire giving continuos power - however when the engine turns off the head unit does not turn off with it - meaning the unit is always on. This means I would have to continually power off the head unti with the on/off button and also remove the facia every time I leave the vehicle.

Not the ideal solution....

So is there an adapter I can buy for the stereo to plug on and solve the above?

Need this answering today as I have the car booked back in next week to have the facia adapter put on and any re-wiring done.

Husbands just been and had a look and tried the three combinations in the manual

A) Red to Red, Yellow to Yellow

B) Red to Yellow, Yellow to Red

C) Red to Red, Yellow to Red

But no joy the only thing that works is if we put yellow to yellow and make a contact with red to yellow but the yellow wire only has one connector

Cheers

Charlie

Fuse the yellow and red wires together - It's the only way!

Just going to have to deal with having to turn the damn thing off by hand...Right pain in the arsee but I'm pretty sure that's the only fix.

Damn you Fiat! Not supplying switched live down the yellow wire!
Damn you yellow wire!

hey, i had the same prob when tryin to install a jvc LHX501 so i just booked it in at my dealer and they did it for about thirty quid. and i had no probs at all.took them about an hour.

I cant remember which one it is but one of them is an ignition key switch wire (yellow or red) but this means the ignition has to be on bcoz it wont wont supply power unless its on. I think its the yellow one. I had this problem in a bravo. There are conversion links available. Try Lucas?????

MK2 puntos dont have an ignition live, they are switched on via the can line. If you fit an after market unit all you have to do is either do as you suggest and join the red and yellow wires on your radio wiring OR add an ignition live, normally taken from the cigar lighter circuit.
