Hi sorry if this has been asked before but when i put my punto 55 under force eg going down the motorway or driving round a carpark it jumps and has no power also the injector light is coming on but not staying on, anyone have any ideas of what could be the problem.

Hi Pyromad, I am not sure about the others, but the injector light going off is normal, it is supposed to do that. If it stays on it means you have an injector problem. When you say it jumps and has no power, does the car stop?

Hi,

This is a fairly common Fiat Punto pre-2000 problem.

I had the same problem on my Punto 75 SX (1998). The problem started last winter and it only happend directly after starting the car at first. This summer it also started to happen when the engine was hot. Two local FIAT-workshops couldn't find the source of the problem and I had the coils, the lambda and the spark-plug-cables replaced.

I found the solution myself. The metal parts holding the ECU in place looked rusty, as well as a screw that connects a cable to the body of the car next to the ECU. I unplugged & removed the ECU and cleaned all the parts (including the sides of the ECU) with sandpaper. This solved the problem on my Punto.

the ecu can work completely separated from the car apart from it's cables so that wont be the problem you may have just moved some dodgy wires in your case but corosion on the mounts wont do out

also just because it happened to one car don't make it a common problem so be carefull what you right that on the forum or you give people ideas (y)

@op does it happen all time or when cold or what cos if it's not ignition it can be head gasket

also is there a plastic cover covering the coils atall if so this may have caused one to overheat making car run on 2 this is common on mk1 fiat garages were instructed to remove them on all cars
