Our 2001 Punt, with an eight year anti-perforation warranty has holes in the rear passenger footwells. One each side within 300 mm of the rear seat belt mounts was enough to fail the MOT. Has anyone else had such problems? Fiat will not accept responsibility and after a cursory glance suggest it is a result of bad jacking which presumably removed underseal and started the ball rolling as they say. Any thoughts?:(

8 years is in the Service book and they accept that there is a warranty. The checks have to be done by Fiat at 3 and 5 years. Whilst the car was seen by Fiat at 3 years, we missed the 5 year check - how do you remember these things!

Kwik Fit put on two new tyres recently and I was very impressed with the care they took - rubber pads under the cill jacking points and no where near the holes in the floor pan.

Had it since new, though the warranty is transferable so should not be an issue.

Has anyone else had holes in the floor requiring welding plates in?

mines going rusty everywhere, 2000 plate, no holes yet though.

got holes on the roof tho.

its crazy how rusty the mk2 punto is, the mk1 punto's are great for not going rusty, but mk2's are as bad as fords, mk2 punto i saw earlier had big rust holes in front of bonnet.

my 2000 punto has more rust than my 1993 uno, work that one out

i sold a Mk196 lately not a bit of rust anywhere, well there was a tiny bit of bubbling around the hatch door lock, but that was all:) if your going to keep the car worth doing properly, cut out the whole rust etc, but then again can you be bothered/is it worth it.if you have the gear its not that difficult.

Mk1 bodies are very rust proof, however the underneath is crap....mine was rotten on front valance behind front bumper to the point you could breaks bits off, the rear arches were rotten and the first time it went up on garage ramps the mechanics response on first putting it up on ramps was bloody hell you had this parked in river for the last year?...Body work looked perfect tho

Hi,

My Punto MK1 has a significant amount of rust underneath. It failed its MOT because of this. Is this the end? Will I have to scrap it, or can the parts underneath be replaced?
