Hi, I have a Fiat Punto '53' Reg. One side of the wiper has broke. Basically the link arm has worn and come loose. I can fit it back together but after a few goes, the joint comes apart again. I've heard that i can undue the bolt from the wiper to remove the wiper which i have done, but found there is a washer/clip under the thread. Is this easy to remove? Once I have done this I plan to hacksaw the joint from the washer arm and drill through to enable me to place a bolt from the link arm back to the washer arm. Can any help? many thanks. Glynn

you can easily fix it yourself with a pair of water pump pliers or mole grips. squash the nylon ring on the linkage so the hole in the middle is smaller, then force the wiper back on. its as easy as that.

if you're in north east england i'm happy to do it for you at no cost. i'm in durham.

The replacement linkage from Wipex (via ebay) costs just over £30 and is much sturdier than the original and only takes 25 minutes to fit - Have a look at the sticky in the Punto technical section.

i tied the one on my old active sport together with fishing wire, worked just aswell and much cheaper then the £127 fiat wanted!

Hi, ta for the offer but have now managed to fix the problem. cheers for the reply.

Hi Cheers for the reply and offer. I've now actually managed to sort the problem. Ta

I have now managed to resolve this problem. Thanks to those who replied. After doing some research have noticed this to be a common problem with Puntos. If anyone reads this message and has a similar problem and is unsue what to do i am hapy to go into more detail. Or if you need any help and live in Halifax area I can help.
If you've got the correct tools you can fix this problem within an hour without spending a penny. All you need is a good screw bolt with self locking screw then you're sorted...

I really wouldn't post your email address on a public forum your going to get lots of spam now.

has the punto got the same rubbish set up as tipos where a plastic connector on the arm connecting the drivers side to the powered passengers side breaks? i had the wipers break twice on my old tipo. if it happens on my new one i'd be interested to see if it could be upgraded?

nope it uses twin independant metal linkages. the problem is that the linkage arm has a hole at either end with a nylon ring inside and the nylon wears allowing the linkage to literally drop off. its a really poor design, classic italian shortsightedness.

it sounds the same with the plastic thing at the end which is put in and then twisted, which the other arm just pushes into. if i have any problems i'll look at upgrading if possible, though i'm sure i could carry spares.

I have the exact same problem on my '03' plate Punto, my dad repaired the passenger side wiper but the drivers side wiper is harder to get to. How could we repair this wiper with fishing wire? (or repair it at all without spending money?)

Cheers for any help.

Mine does it too, i cant drive in the rain at all! I have an 03 plate punto. So it seems to be happening on all punto's then.

for a quick fix that is going to last 6 months + (done right) i slid the wiper back on the bar then trimmed down a bottle cap and super glued it on. Anything with a wider base than the hole is going to prevent the wiper from slipping off =/ ... if you then wrap it with fishing wire 10lb+ it does a better job than the crappy rubber ring that was inside in the first place. But in all honesty guys if you've got a spare £30 i would STRONGLY recommend bying off ebay as this is a SAFTEY issue and not really to be debated over.

Alzatar.

Is it possible for you to come to killingworth or if i come to Durham for you to repair my linkage on a punto.?

For all wiper linkage problems, make sure the spindles are lubricated and moving smoothly.

Seizedor seizing spindles put a huge strain on the linkage.

It is better that the linkage 'pops' than burns out the motor.

Cheers

Has anyone tried this repair using one of the wiper linkage repair clips? (ebay it if you dont know what i mean)
Passenger side linkage has fallen off and want quick fix but not too keen on crushing the hole.
