I wonder, would a 2005 engine fit a 2002 Punto ? Both models 1.2 8v.

It is just that there is 130,000 miles on my 2002 Punto and I would rather replace the engine with a more recent one, when things start going wrong, than start on a series of expensive repairs on an old engine.

Why 2005 ? Well, there is a good looking 2005 engine at the scrappies.

I'm not 100% sure, but i cant see any problems.

PS make sure you use all the original bits for the immobiliser or your keys wont start the car

I'm not so sure, it will fit

As I know head is different, also some MK2 have SPI, other MPI, MK2B have only MPI. You can solve this by keeping mk2 manifold, but I don't know if it fits to new head. Check also if you have same mounts for sensors (knock sensor etc).

All MK2 1.2 8vs are MPI ;) its the MK1 60 engine that was SPI and had a different head for mounting points.

the mk2 and mk2b mounts are slightly different but you can get round that when fitting the engine it isnt a big problem.

I thought some mk2's (the ones before they started calling them active, dynamic etc..) were spi engines and the ones after were mpi engines

:yeahthat: IIRC, you can keep the mount from the original engine and bolt it straight to the 2b engine, but im sure one of the techs can clarify....

I'm fairly certain all mk2s 1.2 8v were MPI - i have both a W and X reg with these engines (neither have the fancy names) and both have 4 seperate injectors on the intake branches.

multipoint doesnt mean multiple injectors, its mulit "point" rather than idle middle and full, its continually variable, injected just above the intake manifold, were as single point injection is in the intake manifold itself.

as the multi point injection unit is just upstream of the intake manifold it will go into "mulitple places" were as single point injectors were in the intake manifold itself were as only giving ijection to a single place in the manifold.

multi point does NOT mean there are multiple injectors;)

all newer cars utilize sequential injection which is injection is times to each cylinders intake stroke.

and yes early mk2's before 2002 carried over the old spi engine;)

hope this clears it up(y)
