Firstly thanks to littlepip17 and yazza54 for your comments regarding the head problem i had with the broken bolts etc..

I took your advice and had the head skimmed and reconned, bolts came out easily, have now refitted everything, got good compression (12 bar). Engine started but revs where high on tickover (2000), reset ecu and this cured revs.

problem now is. theres smoke coming from the exhaust, looks white but stinks of fuel, fitted new lambda sensor, cat, plugs, oil and filter, air filter, head gasket and skimmed head.

Do you think it could be another sensor? or the ECU or throttle housing, revs are now at 1100, if had a carb, you'd think the choke was stuck on. any ideas, what i could do next? thanks Frank:bang:
 
Did you reconnect the Coolant Temperature sensor. This is not the one which feeds the Water Temp guage. The Coolant Temp Sensor is like a Choke on old cars.

Ye, reconnected but can't say if its a good one or not, can i test it?
 
I do not know of a test for the Coolant temp sensor, but I usually replace them if I am unsure of them or I have a fuel consumption issue. BTW a u/s coolant sensor will not put on the Engine management light. They are not expensive, and with fuel the price it is, it will not take long to recoup the cost of the sensor if it was faulty.

White smoke is usually a sign of head gasket problems when the engine starts to burn off coolant. This would also explain a rise or fluctuation in your idle.... however i cant see it being this if you have just had the head skimmed and a new head gasket so it must be a fuelling/ignition problem or possibly a sensor like mentioned earlier. Had any luck? Just realised this is a rather old thread..

Are you sure its not just water in your exhaust from when the HG went first time around.

Giv eit a run on the mway and see if it clears
