hi there could anybody help me.i have a t reg mk1 punto.my rear drivers side suspension is making a terrible bang when i go over bumps.could anybody diagnose the problem thanks.

firstly check your shock absorbers. push down and release on the rear of the car at each side. your car should pop back up and settle, if it tends to bounce, then your shock absorber on that side could be goosed, if it is then always replace both. secondly jack the car up and use axle stands get a torch and have a look at the springs you could have a broken spring, if so again change both. hope this helps

check for any leaking fluid or evidence of past leaks.

its a 3/5 in terms of hardness to replace - you just have to have the right tools. i've put a guide in the err guide section.

thank you i will check it tommoro and get it up on the ramps.it is doing my head in.

Sounds like the rear subframe bushes.
You can buy kits to modify / bodge them ! even fiat supplied them.

search Ebay for ' Punto rear subframe '

why has every one over looke the trailing arm bushes by far the most comon failure on the back of mk1

hell even one of mine has a slight bit of play and makes a noise

you can buy a hole new trailing arm for about 56 quid

or get the bushes very cheaply and fit them into the one you have depends how handy you are with a few hammers

to diagnose the trailing arms jack up the back of the car so that side wheel is at it's full extension and try to move it up and down you will feel play if it is that
