I've got a Punto 60 Selecta, yesterday I went to the petrol station and filled it up to try and figure out if I am getting good MPG from it. Only it seems I filled it too much....
Went to drive it today, got to the car and find petrol dripping down by the rear nearside wheel, damm I think - fuel tank leaking.
So I open up the back seat and look at the pump - fuel seems to be coming from the pump seal, and also engine would not start.
I take out the fuel pump and realise that the level of the fuel is right up to the seal. I decide maybe there is no room for pressure in the tank and maybe if I bail out some fuel the engine will start and the leak will be fixed. I bail out 10 litres and put it all back together, engine starts, great!
Next time I try to start, same thing happens, no petrol getting to the injector. Fortunately I still have the hammer and the screwdriver in the car and I take out the pump and put it back again, engine starts.
The problem seems to be that the big plastic nut on the fuel pump doesn't sit squarely enough on the thread to get it tight without cross threading. I wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to how to get the nut on properly?
Thanks,
Seth
