I've got a Punto 60 Selecta, yesterday I went to the petrol station and filled it up to try and figure out if I am getting good MPG from it. Only it seems I filled it too much....

Went to drive it today, got to the car and find petrol dripping down by the rear nearside wheel, damm I think - fuel tank leaking.

So I open up the back seat and look at the pump - fuel seems to be coming from the pump seal, and also engine would not start.

I take out the fuel pump and realise that the level of the fuel is right up to the seal. I decide maybe there is no room for pressure in the tank and maybe if I bail out some fuel the engine will start and the leak will be fixed. I bail out 10 litres and put it all back together, engine starts, great!

Next time I try to start, same thing happens, no petrol getting to the injector. Fortunately I still have the hammer and the screwdriver in the car and I take out the pump and put it back again, engine starts.

The problem seems to be that the big plastic nut on the fuel pump doesn't sit squarely enough on the thread to get it tight without cross threading. I wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to how to get the nut on properly?

Thanks,

Seth

i dnt know if them nuts an bolts are replaceable... you could try an see if you can replace the whole bolt an thread (dunno if you can)

if you was to remove it i dnt think it will cross thread that much... it went on that way so its got to come off. if u cant get it back on completly.. it only has to be tight enough to keep it sealed and presure in the tank.. the reason it wnt starts sometimes is that air is gettin in the system so the air mixture is wrong wen it comes to start.... there is things you can buy in order to keep it the nut on, you could buy LOCK TIGHT! simlar to glue place some on the thread an fasten the nut to as tight as it will go.. this will set rock hard an wnt move.
