I used engine degreaser such as 'Gunk' to remove the sticky residue crap left on. Works much better than auto glym tar and bug remover

whilst we are on about auto glym that stuff is good for getting rid of the left over crap from removing that vinyl off the B pillar

when i remove badges and door mouldings and there is glue left i use a spirit wipe with some octoral degreasent. takes it off in seconds and doesnt leave any marks
last measure is cellulose thinners if its that tarry stuff thats impossible to remove. As long as you dont leave it on the car for long, it wont damage the paintwork.
