Hi, ive got a punto mk2, ELX, 8v,2001, and ive been having problems with my ABS for a while now so decided to do a search on here to see what it could be. the fault is that when breaking under low speed the abs kicks in, at first i thaught it was warped discs so had them changed with new pads but that didnt work so saw a few posts on here saying it could be the ABS sensors, so i cleaned the back ones with no problems then had ago at doing the front ones, so there i am removing the bolt that holds the plug in and then tried pulling it out but couldnt as it was seized, so give it a light tap with a hammer and gave it a pull and it snapped :( so the top of the plug was in my hand and the rest of it is still atatched to my car and i cant get it out. Im well gutted as my MOT is due soon and im selling the car. :bang:

any help would be much appreciated

thanks :worship:

i wonder if removing the abs fuse would deactivate the light or cause it to come on permanent cos if you can get it to turn off chances are mot will not notice it's not functioning

as for replacement there about 15 quid iirc

abs intervention at low speed braking is not usually caused buy a sensor

if the sensor goes open circuit the ecu will see this as an immediate stop and that's not posible so it will ignore it and flag a sensor reading not fesable error and such

maybe a problem with the ecu

"The regulations here are very clear. If there is a problem signalled by the ABS light, then that is an MOT failure. The Testing station would have no discretion at all.The ABS as such is not tested. So if, as a result of your ABS failure the warning lights show an incorrect indication, then that will result in an MOT failure"

Its also a safety feature for your benefit, you will need to get it repaired.

Hi mate,

Drill out the old remaining bit of sensor and pop the new one in. I had by the sounds of it the same problem as you, my ABS was cutting in at about 5mph when coming to a stop at a junction. When it comes to breaks, best way is to repair it properly IMO.

Good luck,
Alan

well a couple of the mot testers were i work would notnotice

after a few years of testing the things they actually check get rather cut down rather lazy if you ask me but we all know of someone who dont do everything properly

just a thought anyway to get it past the mot obviously i totally agree it needs fixing but he said mot was soon

Thanks for all the advice ill have ago at drilling the piece out tomorow. Also is the new sensor easy to fit as mine is snapped just below the plug.

thanks

well the new sensor will just slip in the hole if you clean all the rust out

how does the bolt look that holds it in hope you not snapped it

bolt looks orite just need to get the remaining plastic piece out of the hole
