Hi,

Would like to say that i am so glad i have found this forum as it is very helpful.

I have a 2000 V reg Punto 1.2. When i lift up the clutch in first gear it make a terrible judderring movement that sounds like a hammer banging something! Its been happening for quite a few months now. The cars mileage is approx 56,000.

Also when i first start the engine their is a sort of whirring sound. Sort of like something turning and going whisk, whisk, whisk!!! (sorry for the terrible description, hopefully someone will know what sort of sound i mean!) :)

Also when i open the driver side door it makes a very loud clicking noise?!?

I have had a lot of problems with the car and have had to spend quite a bit of money fixing it...:bang:  (n)

56,000 is about the mileage the clutch wears out.

It sounds like the plate is worn out.

That could also explain the whisking noise. If you press the clutch pedal in when it's making the noise, does it go away? If it's clutch related, the noise should stop or change.

The clicking door could be a sticky door stay. It's that dog-leg shaped piece of metal half way down the door. If the ends seize it'll click. Spray some WD40 at each joint and then grease it (Lithium grease.. but any is better than none).

If there's some drama with your motor, it's best to sort them immediately, if not sooner. Driving "for months" with problems isn't going to make them cheaper to repair.. just make things worse.

Thanks for your reply. Im going to take the car to the mechanics and just hope they don't charge me too much to fix it! I know i've left it way too long.

Gonna spray some WD40 on the door and see if the clicking stops.

Thanks for your advie its been helpful.

It's the pivots on the ends of the door stay that can seize up.. so give those a squirt and work it in by swinging the door open and closed.

A clutch on your fella should cost about £90 plus £60 to fit. Prices vary, obviously but if it's heaps more than that, then be suspicious... they MAY be taking advantage.
