Technical CITY button

Technical CITY button

I don't own a Punto, but had use of one as a courtesy car a few months back. I did have a play around with the CITY button, and must admit I did end up turning it off once I got to the open country lanes.

Fiat Ulysse 2.2JTD Eleganza, 53 plate, with options :D Angel Tuning [see ad] tuned ;)

I use it when parking, sometimes if I know the road, and know there are plenty of sharp turns, 90 degrees, then I will use it.

It scares me a bit though!!

I never use it in the wet |)

Yeah pretty much only when parking or in slow moving traffic.

Is a bit scary if you forget to turn it off (even at low speeds it's a bit twitchy!).

Although apparently it cuts out at a certain speed. I don't intend to find out what that speed is though!

:)

PARKING ONLY, IF AT ALL!! :D

The steering on mine is far too light WITHOUT the city thing switched on, let alone with it on!

According to Fiat the system turns off at 35mph, but I'll leave it up to someone else to drive that quick with the system turned on!

Ha ha!

Burn out your powersterring motor if your not carefull cause all that does is increase the output of the electric motor that does the power steering :p.

Parking and tight manouvering only.

Last month a friend in his Renault 5 (don't laugh, he's surprised us all and got a car!) had to get out a tight space and he has no power steering. Well, back and forward, back and forward etc, and I bet his arms were tired before he'd gone anywhere.

Before my Punto I had an Astra without power steering, and so initally the city mode was so light! Now my arms are used to the power assistance (and therefore weaker), city mode is usable and useful. But I'd never use it out on the open road...

:D

*Deep Cough*

"Err, yeah, I don't ever use mine. In fact, what's this City button anyway....."

Never used it was even considering getting the normal power steering turned down a notch its far too light!

On some versions of the punto the city button also takes some of the edge of the throttle response, so i guess the low speed ( traffic jams?) and arking can be driven smoother? Don't know how useful, as again I have never used it.[?]

OK, I drove home from work tonight with City turned off. Mt biceps are bulging, i don't think i will ever be able to buy any other car but Fiat! Obviously it was fine on the motorway, but once i got onto the local roads i was all over the place. I guess you just get used to it..... never again.....

Yeah, I use it all the time.
I love it cause it makes me feel like I'm driving my '67 Chrysler where you turn the steering wheel with one finger:p

One thing to bear in mind - this does put extra strain on the engine according to Fiat. Not that you shouldn't use it but just in case you literally just have it on ALL the time.
