General upgraded pads and discs any recommendations ?

as title suggest any recommendations for up graded discs and pads ?? prefereablly not to expensive lol i dont mind paying extra thogh.

my discs are warped soo need something :( figured maybe get some better ones.

Warped? From what? Brake heat?

Are you running a standard det up at the mo, i assume the sporting has discs front and rear, are the callipers sticking, or are you really harsh on brakes? What size are the discs etc your running at the mo?

Do you experience brake fade?

bloomin eck. ermmmm lol

sporting has rdiscs front drums back, im only after fronts
standard set up at the mo well i know they fiat pads and some cheap discs from motor factors. they been on car about 2 and half year dones 24-30k miles on em. i dont think im harsh on breaks allthough saying that i had warped discs on me last car also lol

size i have no idea. just what ever standard size is

I'd guess then drilled pads etc will make very little difference, you could convert your front callipers to take something like 1.8 Bravo Discs:

https://www.fiatforum.com/cinq-sei-technical/95719-problems-fitting-bravo-calipers.html

He had problems as they werent 1.8 callipers iirc.

or alternatively stick standard discs on and get better pads, i got reddot pads and they're great no brake fade, however thats on a 2.0 Bravo HGT with vented discs as standard.

if you fit grooved discs you'll get a little venting, i used the red dot 6 groove on my old alfa 75 and found they were great, i'm using 20 groove on my punto now (got them cheap off ebay) they are noisey when braking from high speed ie; above 50mph, also using red dot fast road pads

Some useful info from Car Bibles:

NB Roror = Disc

"While grooving the surface may reduce the specific heat capacity of the rotor, its effect is negligible in the grand scheme of things."

"An important note about drilled rotors: Drilled rotors are typically only found (and to be used on) race cars. The drilling weakens the rotors and typically results in microfractures to the rotor. On race cars this isn't a problem - the brakes are changed after each race or weekend. But on a road car, this can eventually lead to brake rotor failure - not what you want. I only mention this because of a lot of performance suppliers will supply you with drilled rotors for street cars without mentioning this little fact."

aren't ebc discs dimpled so to eliminate this problem

If your drilled rotors are E approved they are VERY unlikey to fracture.

As far as I have worked out of you have brake fade you need venting - and if you just need more stopping power you need softer pads.

So, get the vented calipers and pads from a 1.6 auto, 1.8 or 1.9 (diesel) bravo/brava/marea and that should cure it. For even better brakes fit green stuff pads. The discs can be the cheapest ones you can find - they make little or no difference.

I guess they may not have the same standards for the US/Rest of world market, yea i would suggest a brake upgrade to discs with vents. The 1.8 is prob easiest to find, just make sure you get 1.8ones not 1.6's like the guy in the post i linked to earlier.

Question does the 1.9JTD Punto have vented discs?

Yes.

I have run a variety of different pad/disc combos on my Fabia after I upgraded to Audi TT brakes and founf the best to be Zimmerman x drilled with Mintex Extreme pads and 5.1 fluid.

The brakes worked so well I swear you could lift the back wheels off the floor :slayer: . I did 72 laps of Hullavington and never boiled them or warped them. I did burn the paint off the calipers but mechanically they were great.

If you want a decent upgrade try the pads and fluid first. Mintex Extremes are about £40 a set for the Fabia (So punto will be even cheaper) which is chump change compared to the much vaunted Ferodo ds2500 at £130 a set.

ok ths has turned out to be a more complicated answer then i expectyed lmao, i was just expecting a get brand X there pads and discs are better anyway from what you saying to see a real difference its better to get bigger brake set up ? you suggest the bravo ones wich i believe are the same as the jtd punto as the discs and pads have same part numbers. soooo if i can get all i need from a srappy is jtd calipers then just jtd discs and pads and it will bolt straight on ? no changes needed ?

and you dont recooment just getting beter branded discs and pads.

Think the problem is theres only so much you can do with solid discs if you've got a tendency to warp discs then vented are the next logical choice, I have no idea if they'll bolt straight on, i'm sure someone here will. I would have thought so but not 100% sure.

Just dont get Bravo HGT ones, you may have issues with getting alloys etc to fit if you run standard fiat 15's.

I ran my standard Fabia brakes for about 2000 mile before upgrading from the 288mms to the 312mms and the difference was amazing. I am not sure how this would be the case with the Punto though.

It's all about the hubs really. My JTD runs 15"s so I would have thought these would be ok, although you do realise that putting large brakes on will cause the nose of you car to dive under heavy breaking maybe making it unstable?

It's never easy....

Someone on here must know if they will fit.
