hi,
im having problems with my mk1 punto starting. I called the AA and he reckons my starter motor is seized or something.
Can any body help me, iv lost my haynes manual and refuse to buy another!:(
i just want to take off the starter motor any clean it up, have a look at it, but i havent got a clue of how to do it!
the cheapest iv found one to buy from a scrapys is £35. thought id give the free option a go first if you can help me.
cheers
Louise:D

not to big a job, the hardest thing is identifying the bolts that hold it on , there are two bolts on the starter motor side and one on the gearbox side (if that makes sense.)
disconnect battery
remove leads from starter motor
its a pain but i found easiest way to remove the two bolts was to remove offside front wheel and use a couple of long extension bars with a short flexible bar on a rachet coming in from behind the wheel hub to reach,
then the one on the gearbox side and its off

I got a starter motor for £10 from my local scrappys - yeah its a bit of a pain to get out but its not a hard job just more awkward due to the position of it - would deffinately be easier if you had a friend helping you. If you can get under the car that would be the easiest way to do it but even then its still a bit awkward if you just using axle stands
