Hey Guys,

Rite 2001 FIAT Punto Sporting - Driving it yesterday when suddently i lose all the power from her. She stalls, I start again and i hear this massive ticking ticking sound coming from the engine when i rev anything over 2x revs. The engine management light comes on, then starts to flash so i pull in straight away cos i know its the cat-conv getting killed light

Anyway (a oddly unprofessional) AA bloke came out and read the codes.
I'm getting:

P0300 - Random/Multi Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected
P0302 - Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected

Any ideas what i should do next? Got the car towed my house, A Mate and myself checked all the sparks and leads. Cylinder 1 and 2 arnt firing at all and 3 is just barely. Someone mentioned the coil?!?!?

We got this code on 500C Lounge, but the car runs? No idea what it means?
The dealer perform tuned up and one week later we got this error...???

Swap plugs 1&2 with 3&4 if the misfire moves, time for new plugs, if it doesn't I'd guess at coil pack, not sure if it's a single pack or 4 individual ones so can't say how to test, though if individual then same as testing the plugs, swap 1&2 with 3&4, better checking the coilpack first though

If his car has been in the drive since he posted the thread in 2007, misfire is probably the least of his worries

Hi, and welcome to FF,

thanks for sharing - does your 500 still misbehave

the codes are Engine codes - related to a misfire

just Google the p0### number it's used on virtually ALL vehicles for the last 10 years

genrally the little FIAT engines use 2 x coil packs serving 2 cylinders each - hence the previous advice of swapping the packs to see if the misfire moves with it..,
a BASIC / cost effective method of diagnosis

however plugging into the diagnostic port will give a more detailed diagnosis, and offer the option of deleting these errors,
