Hi

Currently have no handbook for the vehicle so do not know what the recommended engine oil is. Just purchased the car, 2004 (53 reg), 20,000 miles. Going to give it a service, could anyone tell me what the correct engine oil for this engine is please?

Thanks

hi,

the oil which fiat recommends is:-

Selenia 20k Which is a 10w/40 semi synthetic oil

but you can use other semi synthetic oils just as long as it is the same
grade and is a good quality oil (ie unipart/castrol/shell or similar)

hope this helps

Hi all

is this fiat recommendation of 10w40 semi synthetic the same for a 2003 1.2 8v active punto?

cheers

Well actually i use 5W-40 oil. Since this oil is a bit thinner in the winter.

But you have to look for some more things when it comes to the oil. Fiat recommends oil with minimum ACEA A1 index, and minimum API SL. Most modern oils are ACEA A3 and API SM or even SN (expensive oils).

Also 5W-40 is a fully synthetic oil. 10W-40 is often semi-mineral, 15W-40 is pure mineral oil. Syntethic oils have some better performance, but are also more expensive.

Good luck with finding the oil of your choice (y)

the punto is happy on 10w - 40 semi
Regular changes are the Key here

However - Eurocarparts Triple Q oil 5w - 40 semi is something like £12 for 5litres Fully Syn

Im tempted to try it
A - its thinner for winter
B - has a greater range of temperatures
C - its same price as most Semi's

You can run a semi on fully
And a fully on semi, its the changes vs engines service intervals that help dictate the oil grade

In super cold places or where it does get really cold
5w - 30 is often used to help cope with cold

ziggy

Hi

Can somebody tell me if this would be the same for a fiat punto active sport 2004 1.2 16v

Thanks

Well in my brochure it says it is recommended Selenia 20K (10W-40) or Selenia Performer (5W-40).
I use Selenia 20K and even if Selenia recommend to change oil after 20000km my oil change interval is 10000km and i am happy with it.
My friend on mk2a 1.2 8v use Selenia Gold (10W-40) and he is happy with that one.

Now they recommend Selenia K for all FIRE engines (except MultiAir and Euro 5).

FIAT 9.555.35-M2
5W-40
ACEA A3

Replacement interval 12.5K/2years instead of 9.5K/1year, as those are long drain interval oils.
