Mk1 ignition live to cd player

A 30min installation guide on how to Get your cd player to tun off with the ignition key in MK1.

Tools required: Snips, Wire strippers, Crimping tool, Crimping bites i.e. straight connector and bullet socket, Length of suitable wire (I used the live out of some 2core 240v 0.75mm flex),Allen key 3mm, And this guide

1. DISCONNECT THE BATTERY

2. Now remove the 3 screws holding the plastic trim underneath the steering wheel using a 3mm Allen key.

3. On the left hand side or the steering wheel there is a white plug with 4 wires unplug it.

4. There is a blue and yellow wire in the plug (see pick as its the one i have separated)

5. Cut the blue and yellow wire about 3" from the plug and strip the ends revealing the copper and crimp a straight through connector onto the bit of wire thats still connected to the plug. Then get your new bit of wire and strip the end of it revealing the copper and twist onto the other half of the blue and yellow wire and insert into the other end of the crimp and crimp shut. Or solder them and heat shrink it if you prefer doing it that way.

6.Cut your new bit of wire to length and crimp on the required end to connect to the live on your cd player (In my case a bullet socket)

7. Then plug into the live on your cd player and plug the white plug back into the ignition barrel re connect the battery put key into ignition and turn on.

8. Now your cd player should come on and off with the ignition

9. Now to tidy away the new cable running from your ignition to your cd player and screw back the plastic trim underneath the steering wheel.

. Could you please confirm whether it will work on the fiat punto mk2 8v exl (w 2000). There is another method which uses the ignition wire (red). Would there be any difference between these two?

Hi glad u approve of my guide

not shure on the mk2`s wiring best thing is to follow this guide but before you cut anything get a multi meter and test witch wire powers up when you turn the ignition on

if its a mk1 then yes as for a mk2 then not shure but if you foll the guide and just frind the ignition live on the barral connectors

Yes, I've read the point and got it. You turn the ignition off, the player goes off. Afterwards will I be able to turn the player on, without turning the ignition on, when I'm stationary? Will it have power to it? That was actually my question.

no it wont come on with out the ignition on thats the downside, but if you realy want to i put a 3way switch (ignition-off-perm live) in my glovebox so i can still turn it on when sat in the car at club meets ect
