Heater dial colour change, mk2 punto

orite guys and gals
here im gna show you how tochange the colour of the heater dials, heres what you need:
Allen key to remove the 4 screws
type 286 bulbs(any colour) i got white
reflective tape,
screw driver
nail varnish remover
4x cotton swabs
small pliers
heres what to do, on the bottom passenger and drivers foot well of the center console, undo the Allen screws 1 per side.

now undo the screws in the center under the ash tray, these are also allen key screws.

now pull the bottom of the center console and then the top unclips

now you have the center console out, pull the dials out (they might be alittle tight but just pull them!)
now look at the back you will see this.....

prise the white plastic trim off with a flat head screw driver....... it also has 3 clips at the top, just push them in and gentlt prise it off. you will see the logo's of the heater control with a orange film. now get some nail varnish remover(ONLY USE ALITTLE BIT!). Get the cotton swab and just gently rub the orange film off, DONT GO THROUGH THE WHITE FILM! once the orange film is off put the plastic trim back on, you can glue it back on but i didnt bother because its strong enough without glue.

now that you have the dials off you can now gently grip the bulbs with the pliers and pull them out and replace them, note that led's are polarity concious, if the bulbs dont work take them out and turn them 180 degrees and see if they work.

heres the bulb on the top im changing it to.....

Now put the LED's in

you're nearly finished! now get some reflective tape (i bought mine from a local DIY shop)
and cover as much as you can for a more even shape on the signs!

now assemble everything together!
Just the reverse of removing them.

tried doing mine a coupla days ago and couldn't work out how to get the orange off and only just found this guide i tried using a scalple but just scratched right through do you know where i could get new dial sets?

Hi,

I Have Done This To My Car It Is Looking Good. But I Am Wanting To Change The Bulbs For Behind The City Button And The Windows Etc. I Am Not Sure On How To Take The Top Bit Of The Centre Console Out??

top bit with the buttons on is secured by 2 hew screws they under the main bit when u take that off, although to change the lights you need to resolder leds in

To get a new set of dials, i would try a scrappy, they always will have a mk2 punto hiding somewhere :P

i think you need 6 l.e.d's but unsure

just choose what colour you want!

and erm when you re soldier the new l.e.d's make sure that you dont over heat them, use a 25watt soldiering iron like i did and make sure that all the slodiering joints are clean and neat as these are very sensitive. Oh i almost forgot make sure you get them the right way around! :P

hi, it tried this the weekend. i did the whole shiny foil thing, and changed for blue bulbs, but they are very faint and i cant see them. I took all the orange off the insides too, would it be better with clear white bulbs??

Help please as i cant see my heaters at night. :L ,

hi azzam,did you have any problems with the bulbs?iv got the same ones but in blue but they were really loose in the sockets and keep falling out?

yo dude great guide,
only problem is that i tried gettin the orange off the films with nail polish remover but no luck at all. what kind of nail polish remover do you use because the one i got aint working at all.

hi everybody sorry i forgot i made this post!
im gettin old lol erm blue is not a very reflective colour so you can either get a higher wattage bulb or use bright white.

I had no problems at all installing my bulbs, nice and snug fit.

Also try using a light coat of 2k paint thinner and see if that works

For the Heater I use 12VDC LED Strip. 5 piece. Easy to glue inside. Electrical power from one bulb.
