How to Install an Engine Push Start Button

just as long as its a "Push to make" button its fine.

how to you get the cig lighter out!!!

I knew someone would have this trouble!
There are two little dot type things on the lighter that you have to press.
I took mine to a garage, did it for free no bother

this looks good ive been looking at the kits but ill do this instead now does the button have to be a push springy one haha or one thats clicks so its stays on if you push it and push it again to turn off?
also does the engine turn off when u push button again?

I guess it has to be a 'springy' one
It doesnt hold into place like say the cig lighter button does.. its more like the button on the iPhone where its just pressed and comes back to its natural place.
Some of the other comments above indicate where you can get the button from.

And no it doesnt, its just there to ignitiate the starter motor.

is it the live and earth wires that are used from the ignition barrell as i would like to do this on a different car so wires would most likely be different

Honestly mate I have no idea. I got 'Dayjw' to help me with the wiring, I only know the colours of wires to use

Maybe an Auto electrician maybe able to help you out there, or someone on here.. Give 'Dayjw' a quick PM, he might be able to point you in the right direction.

And maybe search it on google? Someone may have already fitted one for your model of car

i just went to maplins and got some decent guage wire and a metal button for under £10

took about 20 minutes to get it all working and another ten mins to put the button where i wanted it

nice little mod and this guide shows just how easy it is to do!

I am currently installing my push start button just now but I am not to sure on which wire is terminal 15 and terminal 50 it is either the red wire or the brown wire.

Sorry to drag up a year-old post, but just wanted to say thanks to iLeno This guide helped me install the push-button engine start in my Punto, and I'm loving it!

I managed to squeeze two contact pads behind the blank button on the centre switch rail (hazards, electric windows, etc.) and wire it up to send 12V from the cigarette lighter to a relay that then does the job of the button in your guide. Only took an hour or so to put it all in, and it means I can keep using my sat-nav charger

I purchased a richbrook "kit" online, the instructions were completely incomprehensible and included relays and all sorts, this guide shows you don't need all that rubbish and is incredibly simple to do

Great guide mate u covered everything. Has anyone else noticed that if you push the button without the key in the engine turns over but doesn't start. Then if you turn the key so the dash lights come on then it does start. just wondered if its normal

Completely normal, the button activates the starter but without the key in to deactivate the immobiliser (and turned to engage the electrics) the engine won't fire up.
