| Re: How to colour code wing mirrors what grit sandpaper did you use throughout and did you not wet-sand between coats to get a smoother finish?

| Re: How to colour code wing mirrors Don't know about the mk2 but you can completely dismantle the mk1 mirrors to leave just the outer plastic casing (no need to mask etc), the glass needs to be removed i did this by tilting the mirror glass to leave as bigger gap as possible on one edge then spraying lots of wd40 into the housing to soften the adhesive then using a flat screwdriver i used a small ammount of pressure to lift the glass from the backing and also using the screw driver to cut through the adhesive as the gap grew bigger as the glass pealed off, i also noticed that plain hot water did a much better job of bringing the sticky residue of the glass (so i could reattach it) than wd40 so maybe a hair dryer blowing on the glass will soften it enough to loosen it? then theres just a few screws that hold the internal mechanism into the casing.

| Re: How to colour code wing mirrors ive just done this with my punto Mk1. had them horrid horrid gray mirrors, and sprayed them black, the same colour as the car. fiat spray paint, £2.29 a can. and primma. follow the instructions from above, but after you take off the rubber thing, and unscrew the metal ring, u have to pull off the case. as in the big gray box thing covering it all. get a knife and put it down the side, it does come off. its clipped in from the bottom, so once you can get hold of the top, just pull it up and it should come off. then theres 3 allen keys on the inside, unscrew them, and your done. but make sure you sand down the mirrors, because it gives it a much better effect. ![]()

| Re: How to colour code wing mirrors Hey, Thanks for the guide, i'm currently in the middle of doing it now, it's working out grand. Just the bit on unscrewing the Black Ring by the 'L' shaped holes, it wasn't working for me atall. I found it alot easier just to use the four indents on the outside of the Black Ring it came straight off for me as soon as i tried that, Thanks again....

| Hey, Im just waiting on the paint to dry too, i also used the four holes on the outside of the black screw as it was alot easier to unscrew, if you use the 'L' holes they tend to crack and brake with how hard you have to hit them. 10/10 guide tho its worked out a treat for me hasnt took that longer either. Tip: Dont spray too much paint on as it tends to leave drip marks from the gravity affect of hanging. (found that out the hard way and had to sand back one coat )Ty for the guide. Matt
