Punto Mk2 Centre Console removal and bulb replacement.

Hello!

1. Undo the 4mm hex nut in the passenger side foot well and pull away the piece of plastic trim.

2. Undo the 4mm hex nut in the drivers side foot well and remove the piece of trim as in step 1.

3. Remove the 2x 4mm hex nuts located underneath the cigarette lighter and ashtray area.

4. Pull the centre console away from the dash. (note the bit with your "city" button and fog light switches etc will still stay attached. As will the heater fan and blower position knobs, but everything else will pull away) Also, REMEMBER to disconnect the wires powering the cigarette lighter. They simply pull out. Revealing below:

5. Turn on your sidelights, and the 4 small bulbs behind the remaining heater controls should light up. However, in my case, 2 of them had blown. They are 12v type 286 bulbs that can be purchased easily from places like Halfords. They simply pull out, although they are quite hard to get a grip on. I used a big piece of blue-tak to stick to them and then yank them out! To replace them, simply push the new ones in.

6. Replacing the centre console is the reverse of removal!

Hope that helps someone,
Alan

Re: Punto Mk2 Centre Console removal and bulb replacement.

I have a small/ or large problem. When i try to pull the dash back, it hits the plastic base of the gearstick. I've tried bending the dash and everything but it wont go passed it... . Help anyone?

___

Never mind hah. I pulled it harder this time and it made a snapping noise... but it went back on fine so im guessing i did it right.

Thanks for the tut .

I have removed the four nuts, but the console will not budge, any hint on how to lever it away with no damage?

I wil retry with a better 4mm key.

Hi mate,

Its should come away fairly easily. Do you have the centre console with a DIN slot down by the gearstick, or the same as the one in the pictures?

No, it's exactly the same, I removed the four nuts but it did not budge.

I will try again next week-end.

Hey, I have the same problem as you mate. However, i took out the orange acrylic inserts from each of the seperate controllers before replacing the panel. After replacing the panel with the acrylics out, the two outer dials are now very bright blue, but the middle fan controller and the bottom sliding jobby cant be seen in the dark.

I assume you used blue LED's judging by the picture on your profile.

My intention is to now put a blue LED strip inside there to boost the blue effect.

Let us know how you get on if you decide to remove the orange acrylics... It does make a serious difference!

Re: Punto Mk2 Centre Console removal and bulb replacement.

how did you remove the orange from the fan control in the middle and the sliding one? i was thinking of putting the white bulbs back and putting blue filters where the orange used to be.
