Hi everyone,

Joined this forum as I've bought my son a 61 plate Punto Evo MyLife as his first car (and he loves it!). More than happy with all the extras it comes with and it's only done 35000 miles, so for a 6 year old car we are happy.

Until now (and I know it's not Fiat's fault), however we took out his first car insurance with Direct Line, we chose to be sent the "black box" through the post to fit ourselves. The website suggested it is fit into the OBD socket, and when the "black box" arrived we had a look at the website for guidance on where the OBD is, no results came up so a quick Google search showed the OBD behind the fog light switch cluster switches on the right hand side of the steering area.

I opened the small coin tray and carefully pulled and lowered the switch panel on it's hinge, to fit the "black box". Once I refit the switch panel and housing so it was secure I noticed that I could not fully close the coin tray (due to the "black box" preventing it from closing fully). So I am now stuck with the coin tray sticking out slightly which is a nuisance.

I assume perhaps that it cannot be fit here and I should have chosen an "installer" to come out and fit one for me, however I chose to fit one myself for convenience, to save having time off work waiting in for the "installer".

I haven't contacted Direct Line yet and thought I would ask the question here first, anyone come across this?

Thanks all.

Paul

Hi, Welcome to the FF.

Would a short OBD extension lead enable you to re position the box?

,

Hi,

Thanks, but I doubt it would help at all as by the look of it the size of one end of the extension lead plug is about the size of the actual "black box" itself, if not slightly larger, so if I could fit the extension lead onto the OBD, and be able to close the coin tray then I'd be able to close the coin tray fully with the "black box" fit.

But thanks for your suggestion though, the more I think about it the more I reckon an "installer" will have to come out and fit one for me somewhere else.

can you see if the fuse panel can be spaced-off from it's mounts.. to buy back @ 1 CM or so of space that you need

buy a bin / coin slot cover panel,
and modify it to clear the plug.

Thanks, could do I suppose, just didn't realise how much of a faff it is, it would be interesting to know how many (if any) Punto Evo owners have taken black box insurance out, particularly with the black box fitted themselves.
