Hi guys and girls. I really need some help. I've recently become a owner of a fiat punto 1.4 8v evo (first time being a fiat owner!)l. With stop start technology but I'm having issues with it. When I'm at a set of lights and the engine switches off then when I want to go I take the car out of neutral into first but when I'm putting my foot in the accelerator nothing happens, which then I start panicking so I have to select neutral again and then into first. Which i think restarts the system. Is there something I'm doing wrong. Or do I take it back to the car dealer and let him sort it?
Thanks

All I do is put the foot back on the clutch and it starts again.

Hi. Mention it to dealer. Charlie . Oxford

I was told come to a stop clutch down select neutral start stop will cut engine
when you want to move off clutch down select gear start stop should start engine
However at a stop with the engine in start stop mode with the engine cut i can select first and sit there awaiting for the lights put clutch down and it would start,(not ideal practice as start stop monitors battery condition continuosly and can restart at any time)
So may be your doing the clutch down and back up too quickly ?
Ensure you fully push clutch right down to floor and pause slightly before selecting gear and release clutch back up.
if you do it too fast fiat computer cant keep up:D

I don't think you are pushing the clutch pedal down far enough. With the stop/start cars I have driven ,the clutch pedal needs to be pressed right down. I been under the impression that the engine should start when the clutch is fully depressed.

Yeah it takes a little time to get used to, but only two steps to it really:

1. Once your car has stopped, depress the clutch and put the car into manual and put your handbrake on. Take your foot off the clutch pedal and S/S should then activate and switch off the engine (if it's working properly and the various parameters are met; have a look in your manual to see the most common ones)

2. To restart, simply put the clutch pedal all the way down. The car should then restart, at which point you can then select 1st gear and pull away as normal.

Try not to think about it too much, once you have had a few goes it will seem quite normal!:)

Although this experience is based on my wife's 500 mainly....my 62 plate Punto's S/S system hasn't worked for over two years lol:eek:

Super Uwe ,you say your s/s has not worked for 2 years. My missies Nissan lets her turn the s/s off. Is it possible your Punto also lets you turn it off?

Hi ArthurM,

Yeah the Punto has the button to switch S/S on or off, but I've never actually pressed it.

I never get any warning lights at all, it just doesn't work. The general consensus on here is that it is probably down to the battery not having enough charge.

It could be down to something else as there are lots of parameters for it to function correctly, I just can't be bothered to pay someone to look at it. The car rarely does stop/start journeys anyway, so even if it did work it probably wouldn't be that often.

Hi Super Uwe, if you go to your menu and go to settings I think it will tell you whether your s/s is on or off. Alternatively there may be a light on the s/s button when it's on. I would hope that someone with your car may be able to help you further.

I don't think Super Uwe is overly concerned by it :)

the Punto I have, flashes the message " S/S Disconnected" on pressing the enable / disable button.

mine works fine after a 5 hour drive,;)

I'd just switch the stupid thing off. If i have one more customer in saying their car cuts out and don't even know they have stop/start i'm going to scream.
