A family members Punto has started to make a very loud noise.

To my ear that sounds like one of the hydraulic tappets is not working.


In the second video the noise went off for a little while and then came back again. This may be the oil not filling the tappet properly and resulting in the noise.


The only way to solve it is to find out which one and replace it.

It sounds noisier at cylinder 2

It certainly sounds top end. the knock isn't heavy enough for the bottom end - not listening to the video anyway.

So if the noise is around No2 then I'd get someone to check the hydraulic tappets at No2.
